Japan: N.Korean ballistic missile may have fallen in EEZ

Japan's Defense Ministry sources say the projectile North Korea launched appears to have fallen into waters about 170 kilometers off the northern prefecture of Aomori. This is within Japan's exclusive economic zone.

They say it appears to have been an inter-continental ballistic class missile and it was launched on a lofted trajectory.

Kishida to instruct ministers to draft further economic measures

Prime Minister Kishida Fumio plans to instruct relevant ministers to draw up additional economic measures as early as next Tuesday following price increases in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The measures are expected to include continued hikes in subsidies to oil wholesalers and support plans for those affected by the coronavirus. Reserve funds in the fiscal 2022 budget will be used to cover the costs.

The Japanese government lifted a power-supply warning for Tokyo and surrounding areas at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, more than a day after issuing an urgent call to conserve energy to avoid a major blackout.

Officials raised the alert on Monday night for areas served by the Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO.
