Foreign Technical Trainees Program Resumes In Wakayama

A program for foreign technical trainees has resumed in the city of Wakayama, western Japan, after being suspended for 15 months.
Seven technical trainees from Thailand started training on Wednesday with an association accepting trainees from Asia.
The group's head told the trainees that he wants them to use the expertise they acquire in Japan throughout their lives.
The program resumed after Japan eased border controls for preventing coronavirus infections last month. The seven trainees have ended quarantine after entering Japan last week. The association said their arrival was delayed as long as 15 months.
The trainees are to start interning at companies after taking Japanese language lessons and listening to lectures on traffic and other rules necessary for daily life.
Chomkhamsing Suthat, who is to intern in the painting industry, said he's happy to be in Japan. He said he studied Japanese for about six months and wants to study more to work in the country.
Iwakura Toshihiro, an executive at the association, said he will support the trainees so they can get used to life in Japan.
