Japan Arranges Details Of Assistance For Ukraine Evacuees
The Japanese government has decided to let a foundation provide initial assistance to help those who have fled Ukraine to resettle in Japan.
The foundation is also expected to serve as a liaison in introducing the evacuees to municipalities and businesses offering accommodation and other support.
The decision came at a government meeting on hosting Ukrainian evacuees, held for the second time on Friday. Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu, Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and others attended.
The meeting decided that the Foundation for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People will be in charge of providing accommodation, cash and other necessities to evacuees soon after their arrival in Japan.
The body has expertise in supporting refugees who have settled in Japan.
The foundation will compile a list of the various forms of support being offered by municipalities and businesses. It will also conduct hearings on the evacuees' requests, to help them smoothly transition to life in Japan.
Matsuno instructed the relevant Cabinet ministers to provide the necessary support to those who are relying on Japan after fleeing Ukraine amid severe circumstances.
