Japan Foreign Minister To Go To Poland To Arrange Ukraine Evacuee Acceptance
Japan's Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa will leave for Poland on Friday to make arrangements for accepting evacuees from Ukraine.
He will take a government plane from Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is sending him as his special envoy to Poland, where a large number of people have fled from neighboring Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
Hayashi will stay in Poland until early next week. He is scheduled to visit a facility hosting Ukrainian evacuees and hear from NGO workers who are helping them.
He is also planning to hold talks with senior Polish government officials.
Before leaving Japan, Hayashi told reporters that he will try to find out what the evacuees need and what are the issues to be dealt with in accepting them.
He added that the Japanese government will make all-out efforts to provide necessary assistance to show further solidarity with Ukraine.
Japan is considering using Hayashi's return flight to transport some of the evacuees who wish to come to Japan.
The government is also working to secure accommodations for those who choose to stay in Japan and will help to cover their living expenses.
