Japan To Send Foreign Minister Hayashi To Poland On Ukrainian Refugee Acceptance

The Japanese government will send Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa to Poland to organize acceptance of Ukrainian evacuees to Japan.
Prime Minister Kishida Fumio initially chose Justice Minister Furukawa Yoshihisa as his special envoy to Poland. This is the nation with the largest number of Ukrainian refugees.
But government officials say Furukawa was recently found to be a possible close contact of a coronavirus-infected family member.
Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Seiji explained the replacement of the envoy to a meeting of directors of the Lower House steering committee on Thursday.
Kihara said Hayashi will leave on Friday as initially scheduled.
State Minister of Justice Tsushima Jun is expected to accompany the foreign minister.
