Japan, Us To Deepen Cooperation Toward Realizing A Nuclear - Free World
Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel have agreed that their countries will deepen cooperation toward realizing a nuclear-free world.
Kishida and Emanuel held talks for about 30 minutes at the Peace Memorial Museum in Hiroshima on Saturday.
They exchanged views on the global situation, including Ukraine.
Kishida said the possibility of Russia using nuclear weapons has become a real concern.
He said nuclear arms or any other weapons of mass destruction must never be used. He added that the US and Japan will work together to free the world of nuclear arms.
Emanuel said the US wants to further deepen bilateral cooperation for that goal.
Kishida and Emanuel agreed to work together to address Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
They also condemned North Korea's repeated launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles and confirmed that their governments will deal with the issue in close conjunction.
Later in the day, Kishida and Emanuel and his wife discussed sports and cultural exchanges over dinner for about an hour-and-a-half.
