Kishida Likely To Announce Additional Aid Of $100 Mil. For Ukraine, Neighbors
NHK has learned that Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is planning to offer 100 million dollars in additional humanitarian aid for the Ukrainian crisis.
Kishida is likely to announce the new aid at an emergency summit of the Group of Seven nations to be held in Belgium on Thursday to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The Japanese government had earlier pledged 100 million dollars as humanitarian support for Ukraine and neighboring countries that have accepted Ukrainian evacuees. The additional aid will bring the total to 200 million dollars.
Arrangements are also being made to double the yen loans worth 100 million dollars that Kishida had earlier offered to Ukraine to about 200 million dollars.
The prime minister is also planning to announce a personnel contribution in the medical field.
That could include the dispatch of medical officers of the Self-Defense Forces to support people who have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, including Poland.
