Tokyo Municipalities Are Moving To Support Fleeing Ukrainians
Municipalities in Tokyo are moving to offer their support to Ukrainians who are fleeing their country due to Russia's invasion.
The city of Hino hosted the Olympic delegation from Ukraine during last summer's Tokyo Games. The city announced on Tuesday that it will accept fleeing Ukrainians. It plans to provide consultation services to match Ukrainians with residents wishing to provide support.
The city of Mitaka has decided to give 30,000 yen, or nearly 250 dollars, per person for those who have evacuated to the city as living expenses for the time being.
Minato Ward plans to lend 50 sets of voice based translation devices to the Ukrainian embassy in Tokyo. It aims to help Ukrainians who have come to Japan, counting on their relatives. The service will start on April 1.
Itabashi Ward is considering relaxing requirements for municipal housing tenants for Ukrainians. The ward is also recruiting volunteer interpreters for Ukrainian language to help translate documents for necessary procedures.
