Tokyo Reports 23,135 New Cases Of Coronavirus On Monday

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 23,135 new cases of the coronavirus on Monday. It says 14 people in their 40s or older died in the capital.

The daily tally for the capital is up 5,251 from a week ago. It is the first time for infections to increase since August 5.

Tokyo officials said there were 38 seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines, down four from Sunday.

Meanwhile, 138,613 new cases of the virus were confirmed nationwide on Monday. This is up 754 from a week ago. Deaths totaled 204.
