Tokyo Reports 7,289 New Infections

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says it confirmed 7,289 new cases of the coronavirus and 11 deaths on Friday.

The daily case count is down more than 500 from a week ago.

The seven-day average through Friday stands at 6,275.4. That's about 78 percent of the figure for the previous seven-day period.

Tokyo officials say the number of seriously ill patients on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines is down three from Thursday, to 38.
