Norichika Aoki extended his hitting streak to 12 games, but the Cincinnati Reds snapped the New York Mets' four-game winning streak with a 10-5 victory on Sunday.
Aoki doubled in his first at-bat in the first inning to keep the streak going on a 1-for-5 day, but Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth and followed with a three-run homer in the ninth in a late-game rally at Citi Field.
"I'm telling myself at the plate not to swing at difficult pitches," Aoki said.
"I'm playing well enough that it wouldn't have been surprising if I had gotten about two more hits yesterday and today, but I can't complain," he said.
Jackson Stephens (2-0), the third of four Reds pitchers to take the mound, earned the win for working 1-1/3 scoreless innings. For the Mets, Jeurys Familia (1-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs and getting just two outs in the eighth.
At SunTrust Park in Georgia, Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki went 0-for-2 as his team suffered a 10-8, 11 inning walk-off defeat to the Atlanta Braves.
Junichi Tazawa worked 1-2/3 innings of hitless relief for the Marlins, but Lane Adams hit a two-run homer off Vance Worley (2-5) in the 11th as the Braves walked off for the third time in the four-game series.
