NHK has learned the Japanese government plans to make the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, western Japan, "a laboratory for a future society" to show ways to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.

The government has worked out a draft of its basic plan for the Osaka, Kansai Expo.

The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has unveiled the official logo in Osaka where the event will be held.

The winning design was created by a team of six and features a dozen "bouncing" red cells in the shape of an O, the initial of the host city. It was selected from among 5,894 submissions.

Organizers of an event to showcase Japanese culture in line with this summer's Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled on Friday the details of the opening ceremony.

The ceremony for the Japan Cultural Expo will be held on March 14 in two parts at the Tokyo National Museum.
