The biggest railway operator in Tokyo has announced it's going shorten its daily services, starting next spring.

East Japan Railway Company says it's bringing forward last train departures by up to 37 minutes on 17 lines, including the Yamanote loop line that links the capital's major transit hubs.

Test runs on a section of railway line along the Pacific coast of Fukushima Prefecture have started nine years after service was halted by the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.

The accident caused radioactive contamination and suspended service on the 21-kilometer-section of Japan Rail's Joban Line between Namie and Tomioka stations.

The Japan Railway group says it has managed to restore credit card services across the country. JR operators had been unable to accept the payment method on Monday morning due to a system issue.

Customers can again use credit cards for all purchases, including buying tickets in-person or online.
