Toyota ready to unveil solid-state battery EV in 2021

In the race to produce the first electric car with a solid-state battery, Toyota is in the lead. The Japanese giant plans to debut its first working prototype in 2021, with a production car going on sale sometime in the early 2020s according to a new report in the Nikkei.

The technology would usher in a new era of EVs, as solid-state batteries are more compact, charge faster, safer and possess more energy density than the traditional lithium-ion batteries that are in current widespread use. They use a solid electrolyte rather than a liquid or gel polymer electrolytes found in in Li-ion units. That means they require less physical space to produce the same amount of energy, and are less prone to fire when damaged.

Organizers of the Tokyo Olympics have unveiled a new competition schedule for the Games, which were postponed to next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Japan's government plans to unveil a basic idea on how to partially reopen the economy when it announces an extension of the nationwide state of emergency.

The government is due to hold a meeting of its coronavirus task force on Monday and decide to extend the state of emergency for about one month. The measure is set to expire on Wednesday.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the unit postponed the release of "SI" until further notice. The album will be available for purchase in three different versions: Complete Production Edition, Limited Edition, and Regular Edition. All versions will come with eight tracks including their lead track "Amor." In addition, the Regular Edition will include "Seishun Amigo (2020ver.)", which was the ending theme for the special edition of TV drama 'Nobuta wo Produce' that aired on April 18.

The governor of Tokyo will on Friday unveil a list of business types that will be requested to close temporarily under the state of emergency declared to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Governor Koike Yuriko discussed the list with the central government's minister in charge of coronavirus measures, Nishimura Yasutoshi, on Thursday.
