2020 Toyota Supra's Straight - Six Engine Sounds Intoxicating In New Teaser

2020 Toyota Supra's Straight-Six Engine Sounds Intoxicating In New TeaserThe teasing campaign for the all-new Toyota Supra intensifies as its world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show draws nearer.

Although not a Toyota engine, the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder built by BMW represents the essence of the 2020 Supra. Straight-six engines have always powered Supra models and this latest one couldn’t make an exception. Over the years, the Supra has also been known for its thrilling exhaust notes and we’re glad to say that’s the case with the A90 as well. While we’ve already heard the BMW-sourced engine when the Supra ran up the Goodwood hill earlier this year, this new video from Toyota is even more revealing. Also watch: Toyota VP Troll Everyone In LA With Supra TeaseSo how does it sound? Pretty good, we’d say. Compared to the 2019 BMW Z4 M40i, the engine seems tuned to deliver a slightly higher-pitched sound and that’s just great. The exhaust burble is there too and the tire squeals tell us someone had a lot of fun when shooting this video — unfortunately the footage is visually censored to obscure the car’s design.Toyota hasn’t disclosed engine specs for now but we do know the same engine makes 382 hp (387 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque in the US-spec 2019 BMW Z4 M40i, allowing the roadster to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds. The Supra also shares its platform and automatic transmission with the 2019 BMW Z4, although Toyota wants you to know its engineers tuned the engine, transmission, and chassis specifically for the Supra. From afar, it seems like they did a good job, at least in the sound department. The following video is best enjoyed with headphones.
