Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrid Toyota Motor will mass-produce lithium ion batteries for its plug-in hybrid vehicles from this autumn.

Toyota's first-ever production lines for lithium ion batteries at its plant in Aichi Prefecture and at a factory operated with Panasonic Corp in Shizuoka Prefecture are slated to cost the carmaker 10 billion yen ($120 million).

Nissan Rogue 2011Nissan says it will move production of the Rogue crossover-utility vehicle to the company's Smyrna, Tenn., factory from Kyushu, Japan, in 2013 when the Rogue is redesigned. Nissan sold 99,515 Rogues in the U.S. last year, up 28.9% from 2009.

Nissan U.S. chief Carlos Tavares says the Smyrna, Tenn., factory will be able to build 150,000 Leaf electric cars that year for worldwide distribution, and 200,000 lithium ion battery packs, enough to sell to other automakers as well as satisfy Leaf's global need.
