On April 10, at the Toyota East Japan Technical Skills Academy (Ohira, Miyagi Prefecture), three Toyota Group companies held a ceremony commemorating Toyota's Tohoku ReBORN Project and the official opening of the Academy. Operational cogeneration electric- and heat-producing facilities were also exhibited.
Ceremony participants included Toyota Inc. and Toyota Motors East Japan, in addition to representatives from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, which works to coordinate agricultural efforts in Miyagi Prefecture. The Toyota East Japan Technical Skills Academy, constructed adjacent to the main Toyota East Japan corporate campus, welcomes its inaugural class this year. Many of the twenty students hail from local businesses in Tohoku.
During the ceremony, Toyota president Akio Toyoda said, "It will take a long time to recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake. We have to roll up our sleeves and do hard, honest, and persistent work." About his company's mission, he stressed: "The entire Toyota Group is dedicated to the development of people, products, and places."
