Honda Debuts New Everus Ve - 1 All - Electric Suv, But Only For China

Honda Debuts New Everus VE-1 All-Electric SUV, But Only For ChinaHonda has lifted the veil on its long-awaited Everus VE-1, an all-electric crossover produced exclusively for the Chinese market.
Developed by Honda and its joint-venture partner Guangzhou Automobile Group, the Everus VE-1 was previewed earlier this year by the appealing EV Concept. Most of the concept‘s eye-catching styling details have been retained for the production-spec model.Up front, the VE-1 incorporates sharp headlights as well as vertical LED daytime running lights nestled within aggressive lines of the bumper. There’s also a faux front grille and in between the headlights, a plug for charging up the vehicle.Underpinning the Everus VE-1 is the same platform as the HR-V subcompact crossover but altered to support an electric powertrain. That powertrain consists of an electric motor with 161 hp and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque that drives the front wheels and a 53.6 kWh lithium-ion battery. Under the New European Driving Cycle, Honda says the VE-1 can travel 211 mile (340 km) on a single charge. Those looking to buy the VE-1 will have three driving modes at their disposal; Normal, Sport, and Battery Saver.Pricing for the Everus VE-1 sits at 170,800 yuan, or roughly $24,600 at current exchange rates, making the crossover about 42,000 yuan (~$6000) pricier than a Honda HR-V. Locals won’t have to purchase a VE-1 outright if they want to enjoy it, however. The local electric car sharing business of Rui Chida has revealed that it will introduce a fleet of VE-1s which its users can use.The Everus VE-1 is Honda’s first mass-market electric vehicle but will be joined by the retro-inspired Urban EV next year.
