Honda S2000 Shows The Power Of VTEC By Overtaking McLaren SennaNext year will mark the 20th anniversary of the iconic Honda S2000, a sports car which continues to thrill enthusiasts around the world.
At the time of the vehicle’s release, it’s naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivered up to 247 hp, making it the most power dense production car engine until the Ferrari 458 Italia arrived. By modern standards, 247 hp isn’t very much for a performance car but one S2000 owner recently discovered that the Japanese droptop can demolish a McLaren Senna at Laguna Seca. Kind of.During a recent track day at the famous circuit, the owner of a bright yellow Honda S2000 hit the track alongside a selection of other cars, one of which was a recently-delivered McLaren Senna bathed in green carbon fiber. This onboard clip shows the moment the Senna overtakes the little Honda under braking to a tight left corner. However, the S2000 driver takes a much cleaner line through the corner and is able to accelerate past the Senna on the run up the hill, perfectly exemplifying the unrestrained and ungodly power of VTEC.Jokes aside, the Senna owner was clearly taking things slow and who can blame him. The car itself is worth more than $1 million in this configuration. If driven at its limits, the Senna wouldn’t just leave the S2000 in its wake but do the same with almost any other four-wheeled production vehicle.
