Nissan and OPUS Campers have partnered up to create the X Concept, which uses the carmaker's new ROAM power pack.

Described as a "portable, all-in-one, weatherproof power pack", it consists of second-life lithium-ion cells recovered from first-gen Nissan EVs, which offer up to a week’s worth of remote power.

The battery pack has a 700Wh capacity and a 1kW power output. It offers a 12v and 230v power supply, and whenever it needs recharging, it can be taken out of its housing within the camper and recharged using a standard 230v domestic socket. This operation takes 1 hour, but if the weather allows it, then it can be recharged in 2 to 4 hours using a 400W solar panel accessory.

"Our customers already have the ability to take control of their energy use at home through Nissan’s residential storage solutions", said Nissan Energy Managing Director, Francisco Carranza. "Now, we can give them complete independence to experience 'off-grid’ adventures. The new Nissan Energy ROAM can deliver clean, sustainable power to the most remote of locations, and be enjoyed by everyone."

With seating, dining and sleeping areas for up to 6 people, the X OPUS features cooking equipment, including a 230v portable microwave, two-burner gas hob and a fridge. It comes with USB sockets for smartphone charging, LED lighting in the canopy and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. After a long hike, users can watch a movie inside via the digital projector with pull-up screen.

Moreover, the camper concept has off-road tires and alloy wheels, and comes with racks for two bicycles and a kayak carrier mount.

The Nissan X OPUS will be presented between February 19 and 24 at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at The NEC, Birmingham, in the United Kingdom.

The ROAM will launch for professional and leisure users in European markets this year, with pricing to be announced in due course. As for the AIR OPUS camper, it has been on sale since 2017 and has an MSRP of £15,995 ($20,608/€18,244) in the UK. It can be ordered in different global markets, including North America and Australia/New Zealand.
