Toyota Commits To Le Mans Series

Toyota Commits To Le Mans SeriesToyota today reinforced its commitment to the Le Mans Prototype racing series - on the same day the company confirmed plans to return to the World Rally Championship (WRC) in 2017.

The Cologne-based Toyota Racing Team said its World Endurance Championship (WEC) campaign would not be adversely affected by its involvement in the WRC project.

Toyota Racing will again enter two cars in this year's WEC as it aims to extend its hold on the drivers' and manufacturers' world titles.

The team confirmed reigning champion drivers Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi will again join forces, driving the #1 TS040 Hybrid car.

Japanese driver Kazuki Nakajima will also drive the #1 car while Alex Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and Mike Conway will share the #2 car.

Team president Yoshiaki Kinoshita praised the performances, attitude and commitment of the six drivers.

"Based on our experiences in 2014, we have decided to modify the line-ups for each car and we believe this will give us the optimum overall performance as the individual driving styles are now well matched," Mr Kinoshita said.

"All our drivers are WEC race winners and we are confident they will add to their tally this season and in the future," he said.

An announcement regarding test and reserve drivers will be made in the coming weeks.
