Toyota and Gazoo Racing are putting the finishing touches on the 2020 Supra, but the companies have thrown us a curveball by unveiling the Hilux GR Sport in Brazil.
Currently on display at the São Paulo Motor Show, the Hilux GR Sport will become the first GR model developed, produced and marketed in the region. The truck also has the honor of being the "first product designed for … off-road use under the Toyota Gazoo Racing" brand.Looking slightly more aggressive than the standard model, the Hilux GR Sport is distinguished by unique grille which features "Toyota" lettering. The truck has also been equipped with extended wheel arches, tubular side steps and a rear sports bar. Other highlights include body side graphics, mud flaps, LED fog lights and 17-inch aluminum wheels with black accents. The unique styling continues in the cabin as drivers will find black leather seats with red contrast stitching and embroidered GR logos on the front headrests. The truck also has a revised instrument cluster, a GR-branded push button ignition and gloss black trim. Rounding out the changes are an individually numbered badge on the center console and special floor mats with the GR logo.On the handling front, the Hilux GR Sport has a retuned suspension that features stiffer front springs and new dampers. The truck also has a revised steering system which promises to deliver a "more linear and progressive response."Sticking with the performance theme, power is provided by a 2.8-liter diesel engine that produces 174 hp (130 kW / 177 PS) and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and a standard four-wheel drive system. The Hilux GR Sport will be available in three different colors and sales will begin early next year. There’s no word on pricing, but only 420 units will be available in Brazil.
