Aquarium To Open Near New Legoland Theme Park In Nagoya

Aquarium to open near new Legoland theme park in NagoyaFamilies are set to descend on the Kinjofuto district of this city’s Minato Ward in ever greater numbers, as a new aquarium near the new Legoland Japan is planned for a 2018 opening.
British-based visitor attraction company Merlin Entertainments Plc, which will open the Lego-themed outdoor park in April, announced it will also open Japan’s first Sea Life aquarium.

The company already operates aquariums in about 50 countries and regions across the world including London, Bangkok, Orlando, Fla., in the United States, and Busan, South Korea, under its Sea Life brand.

In addition to displays of sea creatures, the sea life-themed park will also offer immersive events.

Its scale and other details will be worked out later.

With the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium located in the Port of Nagoya Garden Pier just a few kilometers away, the Sea Life facility could create competition between the two aquariums.

The Maker’s Pier commercial complex will also open around the same time as Legoland Japan in Kinjofuto, followed by a Legoland Hotel scheduled to open by late 2018.

Together with the already existing Central Japan Railway Co.’s SCMaglev and Railway Park, Nagoya International Exhibition Hall (Portmesse Nagoya) and other complexes, the district is fast becoming a hub for large facilities.

Meanwhile, the almost-complete Legoland Japan opened for a media preview on Feb. 2.

The theme park features recreations of Nagoya Castle and other world-famous structures made from tens of millions of Lego bricks. A large brick dinosaur greets visitors at the entrance. The 9.3-acre park also boasts a merry-go-round and a 50-meter tower providing a panoramic view.

Legoland Japan, the first outdoor Lego-themed park in the country, is the eighth of its kind in the world.

Legoland Japan Ltd. President Torben Jensen said that the Nagoya park would be the world’s most fascinating Legoland.

The theme park is expected to attract 2 million visitors each year. Lego brick works and characters will be featured in guest rooms and on the exterior of the planned Legoland Hotel nearby.
