Japan Taiwanese women's favorite travel destination in AugustJapan was the favorite travel destination for Taiwanese women in August, statistics released Wednesday by the island's Tourism Bureau showed.
Over 121,000 Taiwanese women visited Japan in August, nearly 15,000 more than female visitors going to China, the second favorite destination.

The number of Taiwanese women visiting Japan in August has fluctuated since President Ma Ying-jeou was first elected in 2008.

In August 2008, around 63,000 women visited Japan, with the number increasing to 75,000 in August 2009. It dropped in 2010 and 2011, and picked up again in August last year with 77,000 female visitors to Japan.

China received 106,000 female visitors from Taiwan in August, a historic high, according to statistics.

The number of female visitors from Taiwan to China has been steadily increasing since 2008, when only 11,500 women visited China in August.

The number of female Japanese visitors to Taiwan has also seen an increase over the years.

While 33,000 Japanese women visited Taiwan in August 2008, the number reached a record high of 60,000 in August last year and fell again slightly to 59,000 this year.

Last year also saw the highest number of international female travelers visiting Taiwan, with a record number of 3.5 million.
