Quiet cleanup

The Yomiuri Shimbun Priests carefully dust off the Buddhist statues at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Horyuji temple in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture, on Friday. In the annual Ominugui cleaning event, the priests used dusters, made of washi paper on long bamboo sticks, to brush away the dust that has accumulated on the statues this year. "While keeping our minds quiet to clean them, we prayed for another peaceful year to come," the temple's chief priest said.
