Shiga festival creates fiery image of mythological heroAn ancient legendary hero came blazing to life at a nighttime fireworks event here on May 4.
The figure of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, a mythological hero who is said to have climbed Mount Ibukiyama, was created with sulfur gunpowder fireworks for the “Shinoda no Hanabi” (Shinoda fireworks) festival.

The large figure was projected against a cedar board measuring 20 meters in width and eight meters in height.

The fireworks event and other local festivals have been designated by the government as intangible folk-culture assets under the name of “Omi-Hachiman no Himatsuri” (The Omi-Hachiman fire festival).
