The number of visitors to Tokyo Skytree, the world's tallest broadcasting tower, and its adjacent shopping mall topped 50 million as of Tuesday, ahead of its first anniversary on May 22, the operator said Wednesday.
The 634-meter tower and the mall, called Tokyo Solamachi, drew 10 million visitors in just two months since their opening with the number continuing to firmly expand during the subsequent months, according to Tobu Tower Skytree Co., an affiliate of Tobu Railway Co.
The number eclipsed the 44 million projected for the first year of their operation in late March.
Visitors to the tower reached 5.54 million by March 31. The one-year total for the tower is currently projected at 6.4 million, up from the initial estimate of 5.4 million, it added.
