Actor Toshiyuki Hosokawa, known for his appearances in films, TV dramas and musicals, died of acute subdural hematoma at a Tokyo hospital Friday, people close to him said. He was 70.
Hosokawa, who won fame for his role in the 1970 film ‘‘Eros + Massacre’’ directed by Kiju Yoshida, fell and hit his head at his home on Wednesday and was immediately taken to the hospital, they said.
The native of Fukuoka Prefecture started his career in 1964 as a member of the Bungakuza theatrical troupe, which he joined after quitting university. The musical ‘‘Show Girl,’’ in which he costarred with Nana Kinomi, had a 15-year run.
The multitalented actor also gained popularity as a radio disc jockey and served as a professor at Osaka University of Arts from 2004.
