114 new coronavirus cases reported in Japan

Japanese health officials confirmed 114 new cases of coronavirus infection on Saturday, including 36 in Tokyo.

Japan now has 15,777 confirmed infections. The list includes people tested at airport quarantine stations.

The addition of 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama brings the total to 16,489. The death toll is now 637, including 13 from the ship.

By prefecture, Tokyo tops the list of infections with 4,846 cases, followed by Osaka with 1,732, and Kanagawa with 1,156.

Officials say 310 infections were confirmed at airport quarantines and among crew members of the Costa Atlantica cruise ship docked in Nagasaki.

Fourteen cases were found among people who returned to Japan from China on government-chartered planes.

The health ministry says 270 people remained in serious condition as of Saturday, including four from the Diamond Princess.

Eight-thousand 778 people had recovered and left hospital by Saturday.
