The organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government say they will begin inviting volunteers for the games this month.
The organizing committee for the games and the host city government told reporters on Wednesday that they will start accepting applications for volunteers at 1 PM on September 26th.
They plan to invite 2 types of volunteers.
One type will be directly involved in operations at event venues and the athletes' village. The organizers plan to invite 80,000 such volunteers. Applications are to be accepted on the organizing committee's website until early December.
The other type are to provide tourist information at airports, railway stations and other locations.
Applications for this type, of which the organizers say they need about 20,000, are to be accepted by the Tokyo government via its website, fax or mail until December 5th. The organizers say they need about 30,000 such volunteers, but that about 10,000 and others are already engaged in such activities.
The organizers say they hope various people, regardless of age, sex, nationality and whether or not they are disabled, will apply.
Candidates who pass screening, which includes examinations of documents and interviews, are to be asked to go through orientation from October next year.
