3 children among new virus cases in Japan

More than a dozen new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Japan on Friday.

Officials in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido said 3 people have been infected with the new coronavirus, including 2 elementary school students.

A boy in Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, also tested positive. He returned to Japan on a chartered flight late last month from the Chinese city of Wuhan, widely seen as the center of the outbreak.

His father, who was also in China, was confirmed to be infected last week.

Other cases were reported in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Aichi, Ishikawa and Kumamoto prefectures.

They bring the total number of infections in the country to over 700, including those from a quarantined cruise ship docked near Tokyo.
