Abductee's brother on US-N.Korea summit

The head of a group of families of Japanese abductees taken to North Korea says he hopes US President Donald Trump's talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will lead to the repatriation of the abductees.

Shigeo Iizuka is the elder brother of Yaeko Taguchi, who is one of the abductees that have yet to return to Japan.

On Friday, he referred to a remark by Trump that he would raise the abduction issue at the summit with Kim, scheduled for Tuesday in Singapore.

Iizuka said he will closely watch the Trump-Kim meeting. He said the summit will only be a starting point, and that he hopes the Japanese government will not fail to take this opportunity and work toward the immediate possible return of the abductees.
