Abe Visits Singapore To Attend State Funeral For Lee



Abe visits Singapore to attend state funeral for LeeJapanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Singapore on Sunday to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.



Speaking to reporters at Tokyo's Haneda airport prior to his departure, Abe hailed Lee as "the founder of Singapore and a great leader who laid the foundation for the prosperity of Asia and Southeastern Asian countries."

Noting Lee's criticism of Japan over its responsibility for the war, Abe said, "Based on its deep remorse over World War II, Japan has followed the path of peace and become a democratic and free nation."
