Around 100,000 homes without power in Japan

More than 100,000 households in the greater Tokyo area and regions close by are without electricity because of Typhoon Hagibis.

As of 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, some 72,400 households are out of power in Chiba Prefecture, which was hit hard by Typhoon Faxai in early September.

The power is down for about 16,300 households in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Power is also down in parts of Tokyo as well as Ibaraki, Shizuoka, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Gunma and Saitama prefectures.

Strong winds associated with the typhoon may sever power lines. Trees and signboards may come into contact with those hanging cables.

Tokyo Electric Power Company is calling on people not to approach or touch such cables because they may be electrocuted.
