Around 200,000 homes without power in Japan

More than 200,000 households in the greater Tokyo area and regions close by are without electricity because of Typhoon Hagibis.

As of 11 a.m. on Sunday, some 103,200 households are out of power in Chiba Prefecture, which was hit hard by Typhoon Faxai in early September.

The power is down for about 44,900 households in Kanagawa Prefecture west of Tokyo.

Power is also down in parts of Tokyo as well as Ibaraki, Shizuoka, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Gunma and Saitama prefectures.

Strong winds associated with the typhoon may sever power lines. Trees and signboards may come into contact with those hanging cables.

Tokyo Electric Power Company is calling on people not to approach or touch such cables because they may be electrocuted.
