Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso has announced plans to renew the design of the nation's banknotes.
The design of three different banknotes will be amended -- the first changes since 2004 -- in order to prevent forgeries.
Aso said the new 10,000-yen note will feature Eiichi Shibusawa, a famed industrialist in modern Japan.
The 5,000-yen note will carry an image of Umeko Tsuda, a pioneer in women's education in Japan. The 1,000-yen note will feature bacteriologist Shibasaburo Kitasato.
