The suspect of the deadly arson attack on an animation studio in Kyoto may have visited various places related to its popular works before the crime.
The arson attack at Kyoto Animation's studio on July 18 killed 35 people and wounded 33 others.
Police plan to arrest 41-year-old Shinji Aoba when he recovers from his injuries.
Investigators say surveillance camera footage shows that he arrived in Kyoto three days before the attack, and moved around Uji City where the anime company's head office is located.
The latest investigation has found that the suspect may have visited the sites in the city related to the company's popular work "Sound! Euphonium."
The work depicts members of a senior high school brass band. Many actual sites in Uji appear in the work. Some fans call making trips to such sites a "pilgrimage."
