Baby sand cats debut at Tochigi zoo

Two baby sand cats have made their public debut at a zoo in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo.

The sand cat is one of the world's smallest wild cats and is usually found in the deserts of Africa and other regions.

The female kittens, along with their mother, were brought out for visitors at Nasu Animal Kingdom on Saturday afternoon. They were born on July 9.

On Friday, they made a brief appearance in front of a small group of visitors to help them get used to public display before their official debut.

The kittens weighed about 100 grams at birth but have grown to 500 grams. A total of four sand cats have been born at the zoo since April.

A visitor on Friday said the kittens were adorable being with their mother.

A zookeeper said the two cats are playful and cute and she wants many people to come to see them.
