Japanese Industry Minister Isshu Sugawara says it will take over a week to restore power to parts of Chiba Prefecture that were badly hit by a recent typhoon.
Sugawara says this is the latest information he has received from the utility, Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO.
There have been massive power outages in the prefecture east of Tokyo since Typhoon Faxai made landfall on Monday. As of Friday evening, around 180,000 homes still have no electricity.
TEPCO says 11,000 workers are trying to get the power back on, with help from other utility companies.
Sugawara says another 5,000 workers and more power generating vehicles are set join the effort soon.
