A judge in Chile appears set to question a man suspected of killing a Japanese student in France in 2016.
Narumi Kurosaki, a student at Tsukuba University, went missing in December of that year while she was on an exchange program in the city of Besancon, eastern France.
French prosecutors put Chilean Nicolas Zepeda on an international wanted list on suspicion of killing Kurosaki, whom he once went out with.
Zepeda has since returned to his home country. French prosecutors have asked Chilean authorities to be allowed to interview Zepeda in person.
French authorities revealed to NHK on Wednesday that the Chilean side agreed to cooperate.
A Chilean judge is to question the man in the presence of French investigators next month.
The French side hopes to obtain permission to question Zepeda as well.
French investigators discontinued the search for Kurosaki last October.
