Chilean suspect handed over to French authorities

A Chilean man suspected of murdering a Japanese student in France four years ago has been handed over to French law enforcement authorities.

Nicolas Zepeda was accompanied by Chilean officials from his home in Vina del Mar to an airport in the capital, Santiago.

The 29-year-old was handed over to French authorities on Thursday and boarded a flight to Paris. His extradition was approved by Chile's Supreme Court in May.

In December 2016, his former girlfriend Kurosaki Narumi was attending university in Besancon, France. She went missing after having dinner with Zepeda. French authorities believe he killed her and hid her body.

France placed him on an international wanted list on suspicion of murdering Kurosaki.

Zepeda returned to Chile shortly after the incident.
