Companies Delay Or Cancel Initiation Ceremonies

Companies delay or cancel initiation ceremonies

Some Japanese companies have canceled or postponed their initiation ceremonies for new employees to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Electronics maker Toshiba called off its ceremony originally set for April 1 at its headquarters in Tokyo.

More than 330 new employees were due to attend the event. The firm is now planning to split them into small groups and show them a video message from the company president in separate rooms at its head office.

Home appliance retailer Bic Camera also scrapped its plan to hold an initiation ceremony on March 31 in Tokyo.

Fast Retailing, which runs casual clothing chain Uniqlo, and retailer Aeon also postponed their ceremonies.
