Coronavirus - Affected Schools Told To Close

Coronavirus-affected schools told to close

Japan's education minister says the government has asked education boards with reported coronavirus cases to temporarily close schools.

Koichi Hagiuda told reporters on Tuesday that education boards of Hokkaido in northern Japan and Chiba City near Tokyo have been told to take this preventive measure.

He noted that some schools in regions without confirmed infections may also consider closure as a precaution. He said the government will establish national criteria to help them decide.

Hagiuda said parents should take children's temperatures before sending them to school and let them stay at home if they have fevers or other cold-like symptoms.

He also said teachers who are in direct contact with students should not come to school if they have any symptoms.
