The number of coronavirus infections in Japan increased to 924 on Thursday, with three new cases confirmed. The data was compiled by local governments and the health ministry.

The figure includes 14 cases confirmed among people who returned from China's Hubei Province on chartered flights.

By prefecture, Hokkaido now has 154 cases, followed by Aichi with 130, Osaka with 117, Tokyo with 111, Hyogo with 92 and Kanagawa with 60.

Seventeen of the 924 cases include health ministry and quarantine officials and people who were confirmed to have the virus while passing through airport quarantine counters.

In addition to these 924 cases, 712 people from the Diamond Princess cruise ship have been infected, for a total of 1,636.

Thirty-nine people have died. Thirty-two of them were infected in Japan and the other seven had been on the cruise ship.

The ministry says 60 infected people, including 14 from the cruise ship, were in serious condition as of Wednesday.

A total of 718 people, including 527 from the cruise ship, had been discharged from hospital by Wednesday.
