Coronavirus infections continue to rise in Japan

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Japan had reached 1,896 as of Monday noon. The figure includes 14 people who returned from China's Hubei Province on chartered flights.

The data was compiled by local governments and the health ministry. It includes 41 cases among health ministry officials, quarantine officers and those who were found to have the virus during arrival checks at airports.

By prefecture, there are 430 cases in Tokyo, 208 in Osaka, 175 in Hokkaido, 167 in Aichi, 158 in Chiba, and 133 in Hyogo.

The country's overall total now stands at 2,608, including 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

The health ministry says 67 people have died, including 10 who were on the cruise ship.

It says that 65 people, including nine from the Diamond Princess, were in serious condition as of Friday.

A total of 975 people, including 372 who were infected in Japan and 603 from the cruise ship, had recovered and left hospital as of Friday.
