Coronavirus infections growing in Japan

Japan has reported 47 more infections with the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 1,101 as of Sunday.

The figure was provided by the health ministry and local governments. It includes 14 cases confirmed among people who returned from China's Hubei Province on chartered flights.

By prefecture, Hokkaido has 162 cases, followed by Aichi with 143, Tokyo with 138, Osaka with 131, Hyogo with 111, and Kanagawa with 77.

With 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship included, the total number of infections now stands at 1,813.

The number of fatalities from the virus is 49, including eight from the cruise ship.

The health ministry says 61 infected people, including 12 from the cruise ship, were in serious condition as of Thursday.

It says 766 people, 215 infected in Japan and 551 from the cruise ship, have recovered and left hospital.
