Coronavirus Patient Thought She Had A Cold

Coronavirus patient thought she had a cold

A Japanese woman who has the coronavirus has told NHK that she initially thought she had caught a cold and didn't suspect her symptoms were caused by the virus.

The woman in her 20s is being treated at a hospital. She was found to be infected on Thursday last week.

Her mother tested positive for the virus two days earlier. She is in her 60s and works at a music club in the city of Sapporo in northern Japan.

The woman told NHK by phone that her mother had complained of a sore throat when she returned from work on February 26.

The woman said her mother received treatment at a hospital, but her condition worsened and she consulted a public health center on March 1.

The woman said she developed symptoms on the same day, such as a headache and a slight cough. But she said she didn't have a fever and thought it was just a cold.

She said she began to suspect that she might also have the coronavirus when her mother tested positive two days later. She added that she wouldn't have gone to hospital if no one in her family had been found to have the virus.

The woman had a fever of over 38 degrees Celsius at one point, but her condition has stabilized.

The woman said she was prescribed commonly used antipyretics, and the doctor apparently thought she could recover by herself. She also said she is worried that some people may shun her and her family.
