Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito has attended a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Crown Prince, who is on an official tour of France, was greeted by Macron at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday evening.
They watched a performance of a Noh drama, one of the Japonismes 2018 series of cultural events to commemorate 160 years of friendship between Japan and France.
About 100 guests, including Japanese and French government officials, were invited to the dinner.
In a speech, Macron expressed solidarity with Japan over the natural disasters that have hit the country in recent months.
The Crown Prince thanked the French people for their friendship and support.
He said his visit to France has helped him to feel the strong bonds that have been forged between the 2 countries through their long history. He expressed hope that events such as Japonismes 2018 will promote bilateral exchanges and deepen mutual friendship.
