The Vietnamese edition of a book written by Japan's Empress Michiko has been released.
An event celebrating the publication of the book, "Building Bridges: Reminiscences of Childhood Readings," was held in Hanoi on Saturday, the Empress's 84th birthday.
The book is a childhood memoir in which the Empress recounts how much she learned from reading books during her wartime evacuation.
Participants in the event included members of a group that promotes Japanese picture books in Vietnam and the Japanese ambassador to the country.
It was revealed that the translation began after Empress Michiko visited Vietnam last year and met members of the group.
Group member Le Thi Thu Hien said she will never forget the meeting. She said the Empress was small, but full of energy.
The book will be distributed to bookstores across Vietnam.
The group says it hopes the book will help show the importance of childhood reading to the country's people.
