More than 805,000 people in Kagoshima prefecture in the southwestern Japanese region of Kyushu have been ordered to evacuate as accumulated rain may trigger mudslides or other threats.
Evacuation orders are in place for the cities of Kagoshima, Hioki, Minamisatsuma, Tarumizu, Kanoya and Minamikyushu.
Evacuation advisories have also been issued for other parts of Kagoshima prefecture.
Municipalities issue both advisories and orders when flooding or landslides are forecast. Orders are more urgent than advisories.
